What The Cast Of The Addams Family Movie Look Like Now

They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky... Yep, we’re talking about the Addams Family — click click! But you know what’s altogether ooky? It’s been three decades since the movie adaptation of The Addams Family hit the big screen. And like all of us, the cast have changed a lot in that time. In fact, we can barely believe what Pugsley looks like now!

1. Anjelica Huston as Morticia Addams

Anjelica Huston was already a big name when she signed up for The Addams Family, and she brought that star power in spades to the movie. Her show-stealing performance as the sultry, unsettling Morticia made her a surefire target for any director in need of a creepy, unsettling, or otherwise unhinged performance from a screen legend.

Huston now

And Huston’s good working relationship with Wes Anderson has netted her a treasure trove of quality roles in his movies. You may remember her as Etheline in The Royal Tenenbaums or Patricia Whitman in The Darjeeling Limited. She’s definitely not afraid of a juicy small-screen part, either. She lit up Smash as the divorcing, drink-throwing producer Eileen Rand!

2. Christopher Lloyd as Uncle Fester

Before wowing audiences as the creepy Uncle Fester, Christopher Lloyd was already pretty much a household name thanks to his performance as Emmett “Doc” Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy. We can’t forget Taxi, either; Lloyd even scooped a couple of Emmys for his portrayal of the eccentric, rather too chilled-out Iggy.

Lloyd now

Lloyd was already doing the crazy guy thing back then, but he should have a Ph.D. in it by now. He’s perhaps become a bit typecast in that kind of role, and yet he’s still got the same ridiculous, bombastic screen presence he’s always had. Fun fact: Ted, the sweaty lawyer from Scrubs, is played by his nephew, Sam Lloyd.

3. Christina Ricci as Wednesday Addams

The future success of a child actor seems to sit on a knife edge. Some prosper, while others vanish entirely. But Christina Ricci – who was endearingly sinister as Wednesday Addams – has enjoyed a largely successful career since The Addams Family. And let’s not forget: back then, she was just ten years old!

Ricci now

Some of Ricci’s roles have continued to fall on the darker side of the spectrum – when she appeared opposite Charlize Theron in 2003’s Monster, for example. But perhaps one of her best-known recent parts was as Lizzie Borden in Lifetime’s 2015 television series. Which, admittedly, also happens to be pretty heavy on the creepy given the subject matter...

4. Jimmy Workman as Pugsley Addams

When it comes to using The Addams Family as a springboard for a long career in Hollywood, Jimmy Workman is at the opposite end of the spectrum from Christina Ricci. Since he played the hapless Pugsley at the age of 11, he seems to have pretty much vanished from Hollywood — if you only look at his movie resume, anyway.

Workman now

Yes, while Workman has barely been seen on screen since the turn of the millennium, he now works on the other side of the camera. You’re more likely to see him lugging props and ordering people around as a transport coordinator for movies. And you may recognize his little sister. She’s none other than Modern Family star Ariel Winter!

5. Carel Struycken as Lurch

Dutch actor Carel Struycken charmed us all as the towering, mute butler Lurch, and he’s barely been out of work since. A lot of the time, he’s been playing really, really tall people – for reasons that should be obvious! In case you’re wondering, he measures up at a whopping 7 feet. Yeah, really tall!

Struycken now

There’s a benefit to being made up to look like a walking cadaver: it’s hard to tell how much you’ve aged. But although he’s now in his seventies, Struycken is still rolling back the years. Once The Giant in Twin Peaks, he returned nearly 30 years later for the revival series — although this time around he played the Fireman.

6. Dan Hedaya as Tully Alford

Even before playing Gomez’s unfortunate lawyer Tully Alford, Dan Hedaya had a decidedly impressive resume. There were past roles in such celebrated TV shows and movies as Hill Street Blues, Blood Simple, and Wise Guys. But what has he been up to since he was thrown out of a window? Well, his character was, anyway...

Hedaya now

Hedaya may be in his eighties now, but his workload hasn’t dried up in the slightest. He’s a television series regular, with appearances in Blue Bloods, ER, and Person of Interest to his name. Speaking to the website Money Into Light in 2022, he explained, “I’m not retiring. If something comes around, I’ll consider it.” He also regularly paints!

7. Dana Ivey as Margaret Alford

Tully’s wife, Margaret, spends most of the movie getting thrust from mishap to mishap as the family continues to mess with her head. After all that stress, you’d expect Dana Ivey to look at least 75, but she’s weathered the years incredibly well. In fact, she could almost step back into the same role today!

Ivey now

Ivey is perhaps best known today for being an accomplished stage actor. In 2016 she portrayed Mrs. Candour in the Broadway production of The School for Scandal. But she hasn’t exactly neglected the big screen. You may have seen her in 2011’s The Help or, more recently, as a devious senior in Oceans Eight. Yup, she’s still booked and busy!

8. Ryan Holihan as Lumpy Addams

Ah, eccentric, hunchbacked Lumpy Addams. He’s a man of few words, but we just can’t forget his enthusiastic dancing with Wednesday as the family celebrates the return of Uncle Fester. He’s played by Ryan Holihan, and he returned for the 1993 sequel Addams Family Values. The same year the first film was released, he also rocked up in The Wonder Years.

Holihan now

But while his role in The Addams Family kick-started his on-screen career, Holihan hasn’t done any screen acting since 1998. He hasn’t been work-shy, however, as he’s directed and acted in a slew of stage productions. On Instagram, Holihan even poses in a flame-red wig — a la Ariel — to promote a production of The Little Mermaid!

9. Allegra Kent as Ophelia Frump

If you’re a big Addams fan, you’ll know that Ophelia, Morticia’s sister, was all set to marry Gomez. Eventually, though, she got romantically involved — in a way — with Cousin Itt instead. But none of this is covered in the movie. Ophelia only features in the party scene, where she’s played by ballerina Allegra Kent.

Kent now

Kent enjoyed a highly successful career as a ballet dancer, though she retired in 1981. And aside from her Addams Family cameo, she’s written a children’s book, Ballerina Swan, which was adapted by the New York City Children’s Theater in 2013. Want to ask her what it was like to be part of such an iconic movie? Head on over to Barnard College, where she teaches — what else — ballet.

10. John Franklin as Cousin Itt

It’s hard to see how John Franklin has aged since The Addams Family, as he spent the entire movie beneath a ball of hair. And he’s certainly no stranger to macabre characters. Before donning Cousin Itt’s famous bouffant, he played the very creepy Isaac Chroner in Children of the Corn. He even had a small part in Childs Play!

Franklin now

Franklin stepped out of his famous hairy shadow in the early 2000s to teach, but in 2016 he confirmed his intention to go back to acting and writing. Since then, he’s had roles in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Fresh Off the Boat, and the indie comedy-horror movie Hells Kitty. Well, if anyone can combine the hilarious and the horrifying, it’s Franklin.

Hunting down the Mighty Ducks

And just a year after The Addams Family hit movie theaters, The Mighty Ducks landed on our screens. The hit ice-hockey franchise was popular, too, even spawning a Disney+ reboot that included a big cast reunion. Several of the original kids, all now adults, joined Emilio Estevez’s Gordon Bombay for the new show in 2021. But what had they been up to in the meantime? And what about the ones who didn’t return for the reboot? Well, we’ve hunted down those Ducks to let you know...

11. Elden Henson as Fulton

Elden Henson was a big kid, and that helped him rise to fame. He played Fulton Reed in The Mighty Ducks and then another put-upon giant in the similarly named The Mighty in 1998. And he just went up and up from there. As an adult, he played Pollux in the Hunger Games franchise and Foggy Nelson in the hit Daredevil series.

Henson now

Henson was one of the cast members who came back for the reunion, but The Mighty Ducks was a big part of his adult life before then too. He told TV Guide magazine in 2015, “I feel like I owe a lot of my career to being in those movies. What's funny is I still, more than anything, get recognized for The Mighty Ducks.”

12. Marguerite Moreau as Connie

Marguerite Moreau played Connie, whose last name was Moreau too! Marguerite told Time magazine in 2014 that her agent actually told her to lie to get the Ducks part and tell the producers she was 13 rather than 14. She didn’t think for a moment she would get the role… but she did.

Moreau now

Moreau told Time that as soon as filming wrapped on the first Mighty Ducks, “there was a collective feeling of having made something really special, and we were so excited to see it.” She went on to have a successful acting career; she has been in hits including Wet Hot American Summer and Grey’s Anatomy.

13. Matt Doherty as Averman

Matt Doherty played Averman, the snarky kid with the glasses, throughout the whole movie series. He also kept busy shooting So I Married an Axe Murderer in the break between films one and two. After that, he went to college, but he continued to act all the same. And he’s another one who’s returned for the 2021 reboot.

Doherty now

Doherty will probably always be associated with The Mighty Ducks first and foremost, but he’s okay with that. He told radio station Kare 11 News in 2020, “I play beer league hockey on Wednesday nights, and, like, probably the only reason I’m on the team is because I’m a Duck.” Awww.

14. Joss Ackland as Hans

Hans was based on a real person, believe it or not. He was a grumpy old man the movie writers knew when they were kids, a skate shop owner who wasn’t much help to his child customers. The Hans played by Joss Ackland in the movie seems like more of a mentor figure.

Ackland now

After losing his wife Rosemary to motor neurone disease in 2002, Ackland understandably more or less retreated from the spotlight. He still occasionally does acting and directing work for the stage, though, and during the pandemic in 2020 the then-92-year-old joined his native Britain’s #ReadALetter campaign along with other U.K. actors.

15. Brandon Adams as Jesse

After child actor Brandon Adams played Jesse Hall in The Mighty Ducks, plenty of roles came in for him. He appeared in hit TV shows including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Boy Meets World. Puzzlingly, though, he didn’t reprise his role as Jesse in the third and final Mighty Ducks movie.

Adams now

Unfortunately, Adams hasn’t appeared in the 2021 Mighty Ducks reboot, though maybe he will in the future. He does seem happy to chat about his childhood experiences as Jesse after all, and he’s met up with fellow cast members for reunions before. But in the meantime, he’s working on a career in rap music.

16. Jane Plank as Tammy

Tammy was one of two girls on the original Mighty Ducks team, a figure skater whose skills ended up coming in useful. But as with many child actors, she decided not to continue in that career once she grew older. Her only other role beyond The Mighty Ducks was as an uncredited extra in Jingle All The Way.

Plank now

Instead, Plank embarked on a music career and became a singer and composer. She’s clearly still proud of having been in an iconic movie as a child though. On her official Twitter account, she states in her bio, “Fun fact: I was a childhood actress in the Disney movie Mighty Ducks, Tammy Duncan the figure skater.”

17. Danny Tamberelli as Tommy

Danny Tamberelli only appeared in the first Mighty Ducks movie, but his short run initially did his career little harm, it seems, because he became a star outside that particular franchise. He’s not only noted for playing Tommy Duncan, but also for being one of the Petes of Nickelodeon’s The Adventures of Pete & Pete.

Tamberelli now

Tamberelli has had hits beyond that, too — he was the voice of Arnold on The Magic School Bus, and from 1997 to 2000 he was on All That. But he gradually stopped acting as he got older, and now he’s a podcaster… and, thanks to The Mighty Ducks, a hockey fan.

18. Emilio Estevez as Gordon Bombay

The son of Martin Sheen, Emilio Estevez was also a member of the acting “Brat Pack” so he was the ideal choice to play the movie’s main adult character Gordon Bombay. The year The Mighty Ducks came out he got married to fellow celebrity Paula Abdul, but they were divorced within the space of two years.

Estevez now

Estevez was almost completely absent from the third Ducks movie, as he was off filming The War at Home, but he did happily return for the 2021 reboot. When the project was announced in 2020 he declared in a statement, “Once a Duck, always a Duck! And after 25 years, I am delighted to lace up my skates, put on Coach Bombay’s jacket, and return to play the iconic character for this new chapter in The Mighty Ducks franchise.”

19. Joshua Jackson as Charlie

The Mighty Ducks kick-started Joshua Jackson’s career, and it’s still going strong to this day. After playing main character Charlie Conway, he was cast in the show Dawson’s Creek, and that made him a TV icon and teen idol for millions. After that, he had hit after hit, including Fringe.

Jackson now

In fact, Jackson is so busy with his career that he was one of the few original kids who didn’t return for the 2021 reboot. At the time it was being filmed he was playing the lead role in Peacock’s Dr. Death, plus he’d just had a baby with actress Jodie Turner-Smith. But Charlie still might come back in the future perhaps!

20. Aaron Schwartz as Karp

Aaron Schwartz told a small fib to get his role. He informed the Man Cave Chronicles podcast in 2018, “I don’t think they had me audition for Karp… I remember showing up and they asked me if I knew how to ice-skate. Of course, I said yes, but I had no clue!”

Schwartz now

That little lie led to some very big things: nowadays Schwartz is a well-established actor. He was a recurring character in the smash-hit TV show Gossip Girl and its web series spinoff, plus he’s even popped up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe via Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. And… he’s aged well, to put it mildly.
