Many People Don't Realize That These Celebrities Have Famous Parents

Good looks and incredible talent tend to run in the family, but it's still astounding just how many dynasties there are in Hollywood. Many of us lose track of the number of showbiz stars who are the children of famous faces. That's right: the "nepo baby" phenomenon is very real. And while some of these family ties are pretty obvious, we bet that at least a few of these relations will surprise you.

Zoë Kravitz

While Zoë Kravitz is certainly carving a solid career in Hollywood, you can’t help but be awed by her folks. Her mom is Lisa Bonet — an actress who’s appeared in films such as Angel Heart, High Fidelity, and Enemy of the State. As for her dad, Lenny Kravitz is a famous musician, boasting four Grammy Awards. Oh, and Jason Momoa was Zoë’s stepfather until his split from Bonet in 2022.

Kiefer Sutherland

Many people nowadays will know Donald Sutherland as the elderly, evil President Snow from The Hunger Games. But look at a picture of him from his younger days and he looks like… well, his son Kiefer Sutherland. The two have actually been in three movies together – including one where they played parent and child.

Liv Tyler

For the first few years of her life, actress Liv Tyler had no idea that Todd Rundgren wasn’t her biological dad. Eventually, she discovered that she was Steven Tyler’s daughter. An undisputed legend in the music industry, he’s been Aerosmith’s lead singer for over five decades. Today, he and Liv share a very close relationship, despite the belated start.

Maya Hawke

Quentin Tarantino's muse Uma Thurman became a household name in her early 20s. Now her daughter with Ethan Hawke, Maya, is on the same path. She stood out in Netflix's Stranger Things and notably had a role in Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood, which was directed by — you guessed it — Quentin Tarantino.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Tracee Ellis Ross has been featured in a number of TV shows across the years, ranging from Girlfriends to Black-ish. But it’d probably be fair to say that she has a way to go before she can match her mother’s achievements. Yep, Tracee is the daughter of Diana Ross — a legendary figure in the world of music. And the singer’s still going strong today, earning her first Grammy nod in four decades in 2022.

Billie Lourd

Billie Lourd made her big-screen debut in 2015, appearing in Star Wars: Episode VIIThe Force Awakens. She joined her mom — Princess Leia herself, Carrie Fisher — in the movie. And it doesn’t stop there. Lourd’s grandma was a legendary actress, too, as well as a singer. Of course, we’re referring to Debbie Reynolds.

Norah Jones

With nine wins from 18 Grammy nominations, Norah Jones boasts a record many other music artists can only dream of! But her talent shouldn’t come as a shock. After all, she’s the daughter of the legendary Indian composer Ravi Shankar. Mind you, the pair weren’t exactly close until Jones turned 18. At that point, they finally came together and formed a solid bond.

Mariska Hargitay

Mariska Hargitay may be a successful actress, but her past is tragic. She’s the daughter of the famous Jayne Mansfield, who made her name on the nightclub circuit and in acting. Unfortunately, Mansfield died in a car wreck in 1967 at the age of 34, while Hargitay escaped the wreck unscathed. Both that and her mom’s lofty status has weighed heavily on her throughout the years.

Rashida Jones

Ultimately, Rashida Jones decided to follow in her mom’s footsteps to become an actress, making her Hollywood debut in 1997. She’s the daughter of Peggy Lipton, whose most famous credit has to be the iconic TV show Twin Peaks. Sadly, Lipton passed away in 2019. As for Rashida’s dad, Quincy Jones is a legendary producer in the music industry.

Jack Quaid

Dennis Quaid may not be headling too many blockbusters these days, but the actor has quite the resume — can his lookalike son, Jack, match him? He has gone on to his own acting success, shining in the horror sequel Scream and the edgy superhero TV series The Boys.

John David Washington

Denzel Washington has acted, directed, and produced many films throughout the years. He's won awards and critics' praise. Now it seems it is his son John David's turn to wow audiences. With his leading man status taking off like a rocket, he starred in BlacKkKlansman, Tenet, and Amsterdam.

Lily Collins

Lily Collins had a pretty big obstacle to overcome when she started her acting career. Could she stand on her own, or would she forever just be known as Phil Collins’ daughter? Thankfully for Lily, she’s managed to step out of the music legend’s shadow and enjoy a lot of success. It’ll be a while before she can match Phil’s vast array of awards, though!

Damon Wayans Jr.

Not only do Damon Wayans Sr. and Jr. share the same name, but they also happen to share a face. The latter looks just like his dad in his younger days, but even now they look incredibly alike. And the two actors are happy to play up their likeness for the sake of comedy, too.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Blythe Danner had already proven her talents on the stage and screen when her daughter Gwyneth was born. Now, Gwyneth Paltrow already has an Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy under her belt — not to mention her infamous lifestyle company Goop. Meanwhile, Danner has two Emmys and a Tony, which isn't too shabby either.

Allison Williams

From Girls to Get Out to M3gan, Allison Williams has some pretty notable credits to her name. She doesn’t come from an acting family, though. In fact, her dad is best known for his work as a news anchor. Yep, Brian Williams was one of the faces of NBC for nearly 30 years, before leaving the network in December 2021.

Lily-Rose Depp

No, this is not the same person, but mother and daughter! On the left, we have French singer and model Vanessa Paradis, and on the right, we have the daughter she shares with Johnny Depp, Lily-Rose. Like her mom, Lily-Rose found success at a young age — though as an actress in her case.

Dakota Johnson

Now, we're talking about a true Hollywood dynasty. Dakota Johnson's mother, Melanie Griffith, just happens to be the daughter of Tippi Hedren! And those three generations of actresses have taken Hollywood by storm: Tippi in Hitchcock's The Birds, Melanie in Working Girl, and Dakota in the Fifty Shades of Grey films.

Colin Hanks

If you need someone to provide a flashback of a young Tom Hanks for your movie, why not contact his actual son? Colin – the child of Tom and his first wife, Samantha Lewes – is an accomplished actor now. He’s been in movies including King Kong and won an Emmy nomination for his performance in the show Fargo. Oh, and he’s also played the iconic Mr. Rogers just like his father has – albeit a comedic version.

Kim Kardashian

We can't help but want to keep up with the Kardashians, and that's mainly because of these two. If Kris Jenner hadn't spun her daughter Kim's infamy into a reality show, we wouldn't have the Kardashians we know and (usually) love today. And, of course, we can't forget Robert Kardashian, Kim's late father, who famously defended O.J. Simpson.

Jaden and Willow Smith

The Smith family has been grabbing attention for decades. They've made a number of Hollywood hits together and show a lot of love for one another through their ups and downs. Will and Jaden co-starred in The Pursuit of Happyness and After Earth. Meanwhile, Willow and her mom, Jada Pinkett Smith, co-host the talk show Red Table Talk.

Maya Rudolph

Listen to "Lovin' You," and you'll recognize Minnie Riperton's voice immediately. The "queen of the whistle register," Minnie had kids with musician Richard Rudolph before she died of breast cancer at just 31 years old. One of those kids happens to be comedian Maya Rudolph, and you can totally see the family resemblance.

Rumer Willis

It's hard to say which of Rumer Willis' parents is more famous: mother Demi Moore or father Bruce Willis? Demi's star power in the '80s and '90s cannot be denied, and neither can that of her daughter. In addition to winning Dancing with the Stars, the multi-talented Rumer has performed in films and on Broadway.

Zoey Deutch

Lea Thompson was one of Hollywood's leading ladies in the '80s, and now her daughter, Zoey Deutch, has the same distinction 30-odd years later. And the mother and daughter share more than girl-next-door charm. You see, they're both passionate activists for women's rights and Alzheimer's research.

Kate Hudson

There are definitely some good genes in this family. Goldie is still a successful actress to this day, and her famous partner Kurt Russell is considered Kate's proud stepfather. Kate has her own thriving acting career and is a founder of the popular athleisure brand Fabletics.

Jamie Lee Curtis

We've heard of a family of actors — but not a family of scream queens! Some people consider Janet Leigh, pictured here at around 25, to be the original scream queen after her infamous shower scene in Psycho. But her daughter Jamie Lee Curtis — fathered by the wonderful Tony Curtis — has become a horror icon in her own right thanks to her role in the Halloween franchise.

Frances Bean Cobain

Take one look at Frances Bean Cobain, and it's obvious who her parents are. The model, artist, and musician totally has her father Kurt Cobain's eyes and mother Courtney Love's wild-child aura. The relationship between Courtney and Frances is famously fraught, though, and it's unclear where they stand today.

Margaret Qualley

Andie MacDowell stole everyone's hearts back in the '90s with her charming roles in Groundhog Day and Four Weddings and a Funeral. But before her acting career took off, she was a model! Her daughter Margaret Qualley has done it the other way around. She briefly pursued modeling but is now an actress. You may recognize her from The Leftovers or Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood.

Maude Apatow

You probably recognize Leslie Mann from such films as Knocked Up and This Is 40 — both of which were directed by her husband, Judd Apatow. But did you know that she stars in This Is 40 alongside her real-life daughters with Apatow? Yup, Maude and Iris are in there, too! Maude is an actress in her own right on TV shows such as Euphoria and Hollywood.

Elle King

Elle King marked her arrival in the music industry in 2015 with her first record Love Stuff. Since then, her career has gone from strength to strength. But do you know who her dad is? It’s the one and only Rob Schneider! He’s been a mainstay in the world of entertainment for over 30 years, popping up in numerous Hollywood comedies.

Ireland Baldwin

Former model Kim Basinger surprised everyone with her natural acting chops. She even won an Oscar in 1997. It should come as no surprise, then, that Ireland, her daughter with Alec Baldwin, is just as talented on the runway and on screen. Mother and child also share another distinction: they've both posed for the animal rights organization PETA.

Gigi and Bella Hadid

Before she was a Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum, Yolanda Hadid was a well-known model. Of course, the Hadid name is now associated far more with her daughters, fellow models Gigi and Bella. They've both become superstars in their own right, but they owe a lot to their mom. You can really see the resemblance!

Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney may look more like her legendary father, Paul, but she definitely has her equally legendary mom Linda's artistic eye. Pictured here at 26 years old, Stella was then well on her way to becoming one of the most successful fashion designers in the U.K.

Hailey Baldwin

Model Hailey Baldwin — who you may also know as Mrs. Justin Bieber — seems to have gotten her good looks from her mother, Kennya, who's the wife of Stephen Baldwin. Kennya is actually a graphic designer rather than a model, but she could probably have graced a catwalk or two. Putting an old snap of her next to one of Hailey proves it.

Bill and Alexander Skarsgård

Stellan Skarsgård is the patriarch of a massive acting family. There’s actually eight kids in all – although not all of them followed their dad into the entertainment business. Though out of them all, the one who looks the most like a younger Stellan is the oldest son: Big Little Lies star Alexander.

Lisa Marie Presley

This mother-daughter duo has more than genes in common. Priscilla Presley married the King of Rock and Roll himself, Elvis, while her daughter, Lisa Marie, went on to marry the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Both pictured here in their early 20s, the Presleys had a lifetime of scandalous romance and chart-topping music ahead of them. But Lisa Marie was also the spitting image of her dad, too. Here’s what the pair both looked like in their 30s.

Scott Eastwood

Western star Clint Eastwood has naturally lost his youthful complexion. But don’t fear: his actor son Scott looks exactly like his father did when he first shot to fame. Just to really drive the resemblance home, Scott even dressed up as his dad’s famous character from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly for Halloween one year.

Sean Lennon

Sean Lennon looks quite extraordinarily similar to his late father. But that’s not all: the son of Yoko Ono and John Lennon wants to carry on his parents’ legacy as well. In 2015 he told The Guardian newspaper, “The only reason I’m interested in art and music at all is because of my parents. Respect for them is at the heart of everything I do. It defines me.”

Zosia Mamet

After making her acting debut in 1994, Zosia Mamet has gone on to rack up more than 50 credits across the years. Mad Men and Girls are among her most eye-catching projects. But it could be argued that Zosia’s father is probably the better-known of the two. Yep, David Mamet is a very famous stage and movie writer, picking up two Oscar nominations during his career.

Joe Hill

Stephen King and his son Joe have quite a bit in common. They both wear glasses, they both have very successful writing careers, and they both are invested in all things dark and morbid. Admirably, Joe wrote for years under the "Hill" moniker before it came to light that he was the son of the horror maestro.

Jake Busey

Gary Busey became famous for playing villains in the '90s — and for being a little on the wild side — and his son is taking a similar path. Jake made a splash years ago in Starship Troopers and more recently acted in Stranger Things as a monstrous force against the main group of heroes.
