Céline Dion Shared A Rare Photo Of Her Natural Hair – And Fans Can't Get Enough

Céline Dion’s voice may not have changed much since she first topped the charts, but she’s certainly switched up her looks over the years. So much so that most fans probably couldn’t tell you what her hair naturally looks like. So when the Canadian revealed her real locks on Instagram, the photo sent her follows wild.

Celine Behind The Scenes

Dion debuted this latest image change in a behind-the-scenes video posted on Instagram. The legendary diva was showing fans how she recorded “The Chase” – a number from her 2019 album Courage. This clip also credits writers Craig McConnell, Liz Rodrigues and Susan Mitchell before explaining its meaning.

Caught On Video

“The song is about taking a chance based on a feeling, even if it means getting hurt,” the caption reads. Dion can be seen singing and dancing along to the ballad in a recording studio during the 45-second video. But it was her throwback locks that instantly grabbed the most attention.

Beauty Secrets

This isn’t the first time that Dion has been complimented for her seemingly ageless appearance. And some actually believe that the star looks younger now than she did when she won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988! What’s her secret, then? Well, in 2019 the singer was more than happy to share her beauty regime in an interview on British TV show This Morning.

Skincare Routine

Dion told the hosts that cleansing her face and using moisturizer after waking up and just before going to bed are two of her main skincare rules. The “My Heart Will Go On” singer also revealed that she makes sure all her beauty products are regularly cleaned. This includes the makeup brushes Dion uses pre and post-performance.

What's In Her Makeup Bag?

When it comes to the makeup itself, Dion uses foundation, concealing, powder and contouring. And they all have to be of the oil-based variety to prevent any sweat from clogging them up. The multiple Grammy winner also revealed that she doesn’t always need makeup to feel confident, though sometimes Dion will be persuaded to apply some by her entourage.

Hairstyling Tip

Dion also offered a hairstyling tip for anyone who wants to get rid of their wrinkles but doesn’t fancy Botox or going under the knife. She said, “I would wear my hair up in a chignon or up on top of my head so it kind of gives you a little lift in a way. So, it makes you just like up.”

The Power Of Feeling Beautiful

That same year Dion also opened up to magazine Us Weekly about the importance of looking your best. She said, “Maybe you’re not out there on stage, or out there on TV, but we all have a voice. Because we are worth it. We have dreams. Feeling beautiful makes you feel strong. And feeling strong makes you succeed.”

Postponed Tour

Unfortunately, Dion had to wait to feel beautiful on stage for her European tour in support of Courage. In early 2021 the vocalist told her Instagram followers that she’d had to postpone all of its dates due to circumstances beyond her control. The singer explained, “I was hoping to see you in Europe this spring. but unfortunately, the situation is not safe. We still have to wait a little longer.”

Promised A Return

But Dion was keen to point out that this was definitely just a postponement and not a cancelation. The star promised fans that she would be back out on tour sometime in 2022, adding, “I can’t wait. I miss you so much. Love you guys. See you soon, bye-bye.”

Changing Image

Dion was sporting a slicked-back natural hairstyle for this particular announcement. But judging by her style history, it won’t be long before the big-voiced star debuts another new look. For Dion appears to change her hair more than most people change their underwear. Yep, the singer’s stylist certainly put in the hours in 2019!

Rotating Hairdos

Yes, Dion sported a number of different hairstyles while promoting her LP Courage. There was the dramatic blond bob that she showed off on the opening night of its accompanying world tour in Quebec City, for example. And then there was the even more striking pixie cut Dion displayed on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar.

A Brief Bang Moment

The year previously Dion had surprised fans on Instagram once again when she chose to add some fringe-style bands to her more familiar long blonde locks. But to say they didn’t last long would be an understatement. By the time the star took to the stage in Tokyo later that same week, the bangs were notably absent.

Blunt Bob Illusion

And then in 2020 Dion appeared to pull a trick on the press when she hit the streets of New York. From the front it looked as though the singer had opted for a cheekbone-framing rounded blond bob. But once Dion turned her back to the cameras, it became clear that the rest of her hair had simply been pulled into a low ponytail.

Known For Curls

Of course, Dion was renowned for her ringlets when she first shot to fame outside her native Canada in the early 1990s. “A perm of tight corkscrew curls” is how InStyle magazine describes the look she sported on the red carpet of the 1992 American Music Awards. It was a style Dion returned to seven years later at another ceremony: the People’s Choice Awards.

Revisited Her Signature Look

But Dion hadn’t been spotted wearing this particular look since then. It’s why fans did a double take when she dropped the behind-the-scenes video of herself recording Courage track “The Chase.” For 20 years on, the singer had once again decided to embrace the natural curls that momma gave her.

Fans Flipped

And it’s fair to say that the response was rapturous. Alongside three of the praising hand emojis one fan simply wrote “Love that hair” in the comments section. “Let’s Talk About Love world tour vibes,” remarked another follower – referring to the last era that Dion sported such a look on the stage.

They Campaigned For The Curls

Some demanded that Dion should revisit her early 1990s hairstyle in public more frequently, with one fan offering a specific suggestion on the photo-sharing platform. They wrote, “Oh please bring this hairstyle to the Courage World Tour Celine! You look great and cute with that style! Love the song, too.”

However, Celine Calls The Shots

Sadly for these fans, their seal of approval doesn’t appear to have inspired Dion to put down the hair straighteners just yet. In May 2021 she took to Instagram to make a special announcement about a return to the stage. And those popular curly locks were nowhere to be seen.

Embraces Versatility

Instead, a beaming Dion rocked her more familiar long blonde hair and revealed that she would be hitting Sin City again for a new show. The Canadian star told fans, “Well I hope you will join me in Las Vegas for my brand new show at Resorts World this coming November.” As to whether the curls will make an appearance, that remains to be seen. Though, Dion isn't the only star to embrace a versatile relationship with her hair.

Oprah Winfrey

Like Celine, other stars have advocated for embracing your natural self, though few are as vocal as Oprah Winfrey. The talk show queen is a big proponent of embracing her natural hair. The one-woman empire has worn her natural curls since her eponymous daytime hit came to an end in 2011.

Emilia Clarke

Emilia Clarke proved that blondes can still rule with an iron fist with her iconic portrayal of Game of Thrones’ fearsome Daenerys Targaryen. The actress herself, though, is a natural brunette. Clarke did once attempt to replicate her character’s famous locks in her personal life. However, she soon reverted to her original color due to the extra public attention it brought.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is undeniably the modern-day queen of reinvention. So it’s little surprise to learn that she’s not naturally the striking blonde that revolutionized the pop scene in the 2010s. Instead, her hair is actually jet black – as anyone who saw her perform under her real name of Stefani Germanotta back in the day will already know.

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson has never been afraid to embrace change for a role. The star of Black Widow has played brunettes, blondes and redheads during her several decades in the Hollywood spotlight. But which of those is her natural color? Well, it’s actually a mixture of light brown and dark blonde.

Zooey Deschanel

It’s hard to imagine Zooey Deschanel with anything other than dark hair. The actress and musician played brunette Jess for seven seasons of hit sitcom New Girl. Furthermore, she’s appeared in countless other movies and TV shows with the same look. And yet the star is, in fact, very much a natural blonde.

Dakota Johnson

Dakota Johnson shot on to Hollywood’s A-list by playing brunette Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise. But in real life she takes very much after the blondes in her famous family. For those of you who don’t already know, Johnson is the daughter of Melanie Griffith and the granddaughter of Tippi Hedren.

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez has been a fixture on our screens ever since she appeared on Barney and Friends in the early ‘00s. And the star has sported numerous different haircuts as she’s evolved from a tween queen to a more sophisticated grown-up Hollywood star. But you may not know that her natural locks are much curlier and wilder than she usually wears.

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande dyed her hair every fortnight during her teenage years appearing in Nickelodeon sitcom Victorious. Unfortunately, this practice had quite the damaging effect on her hair. She once told her Facebook followers, “I wear it in a [ponytail] because my actual hair is so broken that it looks absolutely ratchet and absurd when I let it down.” Nevertheless, Grande let her fans see for themselves when she showed off her natural curls in an Instagram post in 2020.

Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani has been one of the music scene’s most striking blondes ever since her band No Doubt achieved their breakthrough with the album Tragic Kingdom. But those who witnessed the ska-punk band in their early days will already know that the singer once looked very different. Indeed, back in the 1980s Stefani took to the stage rocking her natural color of cocoa brown.

Viola Davis

Viola Davis is widely regarded as one of the finest actresses of her generation. Furthermore, the star of How to Get Away with Murder always looks the height of class whichever haircut she’s rocking for a particular role, too. And this includes the naturally short texture she often shows off on her Instagram account.

Bebe Rexha

Bebe Rexha’s natural brunette locks are so strong that it took an incredible 13 hours to bleach them blonde. The pop singer revealed all in a chat on radio show The Weekend Throwdown with Jagger in 2016. She said, “It was just so dark, the color wasn’t sticking. They had to keep reapplying the bleach.”

Kristen Stewart

Would Kristen Stewart have become such a moody emo icon had she stuck to her natural hair color? The actress – who became a household name playing Bella in young adult phenomenon Twilight – is renowned for being a brunette. Therefore, you may be surprised to learn that she’s actually a blonde.

Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba’s approach to hair coloring has been so subtle and gradual over the years that it’s easy to forget just how dark the star was when she first caught Hollywood’s attention. The Honey actress may now be rocking a blondish-brown blend, though back in her early days she sported a color described as chocolate cake.

Solange

Singer Solange has sported a whole host of different haircuts while stepping out of the shadows of her older sister Beyoncé. And one of the most memorable is the naturally curly look she showed off on her Instagram account. The star is undoubtedly proud of what her momma gave her. Indeed, Solange’s critically acclaimed album A Seat at the Table even featured a track dedicated to her locks called “Don’t Touch My Hair.”

Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys had everyone falling for her at the start of the ‘00s with her stylish braids. Though in more recent times the piano-playing soul songstress has opted to show off her more natural look. Nowadays, the multiple Grammy winner regularly takes to social media to display her glorious curls.

Laura Prepon

Laura Prepon is now more associated with the dark hair she sported on Orange is the New Black. Still, her natural color is more in keeping with the red hair she rocked on That ‘70s Show. Prepon revealed she was a secret redhead for a “things you didn’t know” piece for Us Weekly in 2012.

Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie shot to fame in the 2000s as Paris Hilton’s fellow straight-haired BFF in The Simple Life. But she actually inherited the same curly style that her singer father Lionel has continually rocked since the 1970s. And Richie has taken to Instagram to shown off her more natural look on several occasions.

Michelle Obama

Few women have put as much effort into covering up their natural locks more than Michelle Obama. The former First Lady reportedly even had an official strategy during her time in the White House to ensure her naturally curly hair stayed straight for every public appearance. Though the style icon has relished the opportunity to show off her curls since her husband Barack’s presidency ended.

Britney Spears

Britney Spears has been doing her best lately to prove that blondes really do have more fun. But the star rocked a very different look back when she was a fresh-faced pop star singing and dancing in her school uniform. Indeed, it’s easy to forget that in the “… Baby One More Time” video she’s very much a brunette.

Rihanna

Rihanna has sported many memorable looks since bursting on to the scene with “Pon de Replay” in the mid-‘00s. The Barbadian talent has worn everything from braids and bobs to weaves and wigs over the years. But at the 2019 premiere of Queen and Slim, Riri proved that she could stun just as easily with her now natural curly hair.
