40 Of The Rarest Vehicles That Jay Leno Owns

After starting as a stand-up comedian, Jay Leno became one of the kings of late-night TV in the early 1990s. His success with The Tonight Show, coupled with advertising opportunities led to him amassing a considerable fortune. And there’s nothing Leno wanted to spend his money on more than cars and bikes. In fact, the motorhead has an eye-watering number of them: about 180 cars and 160 motorcycles! Here then, are 40 of the rarest vehicles that the funnyman possesses, and you won’t believe some of the autos that he owns!

1. 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400

The 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400 is a thing of beauty. The vintage sports car — which is regarded as a forerunner of the modern hypercar — was released in 1966. A mere 764 of this type were constructed. Leno’s 1967 Miura P400 boasts a 3.9-liter V12 engine; purchasing one of these cars would set you back a whopping $3.5 million.

2. 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II

Have you ever seen a 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II up close? We can tell you that it’s quite the sight. Leno keeps one in his garage, a model that boasts a 1,000-horsepower Merlin V12 engine. Most impressive is the 1,806 pounds of torque it produces. Insanely powerful even by modern standards, let alone for its time.

3. 1963 Chrysler Turbine

Leno said he “lusted after this car since he was 14 years old,” and it’s easy to see why. The 1963 Chrysler Turbine is a rare American classic, with just 55 ever made. There are only nine left that are operational, and buying one would set you back over $1 million. It boasts 130 horsepower and 425lb ft of torque. You can just imagine yourself cruising along the California coastline, The Beach Boys playing on the radio in this bad boy.

4. McLaren F1

Like the look of the futuristic McLaren F1 and want to buy one? That’ll be $12 million dollars, please. Yes, this spectacular supercar does not come cheap, but the super-rich Leno has one in his garage. His is one of only 106 that were ever made. Leno remarked it would be the first car he tried to save if a fire struck his garage. The car once set a Guinness World Record once for the fastest production car: it hit a top speed of 240.1 mph. Vroom vroom.

5. 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado

One of the first vehicles built in the U.S. that had front-wheel drive, the Oldsmobile Toronado is an important and historic car. Yet Leno adapted the one he bought to be a rear-wheel-drive vehicle! The comedian’s Oldsmobile Toronado boasts an upgraded engine that can produce 1,000 horsepower. The General Motors classic will set you back around $150,000.

6. 1918 Pierce Arrow Model 66

This remarkable vehicle is over 100 years old! Yes, the 1918 Pierce Arrow Model 66 began production in 1916, and Leno’s was the last such example of it. His car — which he calls “the American Rolls-Royce” but “better” — possesses a 14-liter inline V6, and is unrestored. If you live in California, you might even have seen Leno cruising around in this vintage beauty.

7. 2017 Ford GT

One of the newer cars that Leno owns is the 2017 Ford GT. This beauty has jumped up in price by over half in recent times, from $450,000 to roughly $1 million: supply and demand and all that. Leno’s Ford GT boasts a turbocharged, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 unit, and can crank out 650 horsepower. Not your everyday Ford, it’s fair to say.

8. 1969 Lamborghini Espada

Before he built up his astonishing collection of around 160 motorcycles and 180 cars, Leno owned just the 1969 Lamborghini Espada. But what a vehicle to own! The comic’s 1969 Espada possesses a Lamborghini V12 engine with a 325 horsepower rating. He loves driving it, and has clocked up over 100,000 miles in it.

9. Blastolene Special

Leno has called this Randy Grubb-designed vehicle “silly” but in a good way, and it’s hard to disagree with him. The Blastolene Special is a ridiculous car whichever way you look at it, but a helluva fun one to drive. It has a tank engine, for instance. A tank! The custom-made car — which Leno had turbocharged — is valued somewhere around $350,000. But beware, it makes a lot of noise!

10. 1932 Morgan Three-Wheeler

We don’t know about you, but we love to see a three-wheeler powering down the highway. These unique cars really stand out among the crowd, and there are few of them cooler than Leno’s 1932 Morgan. It boasts a water-cooled engine and delivers about 42hp. Leno has called his 1932 Morgan Three-Wheeler “one of the oddest and most fun cars that I have.” It certainly looks like it!

11. 2006 EcoJet

The 2006 EcoJet is one of a kind — quite literally. Yes, the 2006 EcoJet was custom-made by General Motors in collaboration with Leno himself, and was displayed at the SEMA show in Las Vegas that year. No surprise that the car — with its 650hp Honeywell Lt-101 turbine engine — stole the show there. It uses biodiesel to run, looks incredible and has a striking modified Z06 aluminum frame.

12. 1959 Oldsmobile Super 88

The 1959 Oldsmobile Super 88 is a ferocious beast of a car. It’s large, loud and proud, with a 315 horsepower and 314-cubic-inch V8. It features an oversized trunk and stylized tail lights. Leno’s is an original and unrestored car — besides him adding an aircon unit and a bigger alternator — and looks in really great nick.

13. Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita

The Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita is a work of art. The Swedish masterpiece is a feat of engineering, with eye-catching carbon-fiber bodywork and incredibly powerful engine, and it can hit 125mph in 8.75 seconds. That’s right, it can even reach 62mph in under seconds from standstill, and boasts a 254mph top speed. Want one? Erm, you’re gonna need around $4.8 million dollars. Yikes!

14. 1911 Packard Model 18

It’s crazy to think that the 1911 Packard Model 18 was built before the Russian Revolution, World War I and the Wall Street Crash. Yes, this car in Leno’s garage is handmade and over 110 years old, first being constructed way back in 1909. Aside from looking incredibly elegant, it can hit an impressive top speed of 60mph.

15. 2011 Audi R8 Spyder

One of the fastest cars on the planet, the 2011 Audi R8 Spyder is something special. You’ll likely need around $157,000 to prise one of these beauties away from its owner. Leno has remarked that he drives this car daily. Only 666 of the top-end GT version of these powerful vehicles were constructed by the German manufacturer — 333 in coupe form and 333 in open top form.

16. 1993 Light Car Company Rocket

“The best thing about this car is, it’s no bigger than a coffin,” joked Leno when talking about the 1993 LCC Rocket. The eye-catching vehicle is one the funnyman loves to drive around on the open road, and no wonder. It motors on a 1000cc Yamaha engine at somewhere between 143 or 165 horsepower. You’ll look like a Formula 1 driver if you ever get your hands on this bad boy.

17. 1939 Lagonda V12

This beauty is the 1939 Lagonda V12, a British luxury car built at the tail end of the turbulent 1930s. They are extremely rare these days, and would set you back more than $2.5 million should you manage to track one down. Leno’s model is a custom-built reproduction of the roadster, and features a stunning red paint job.

18. 1922 Megola

Leno owns a wide range of motorcycles, but none in his vast collection are as rare as the 1922 Megola. This vintage beauty boasts a five-cylinder radial engine, which is on the front wheel. It has no front brake, transmission, or belt, and you need to spin the front wheel to fire up the engine! With such a rare gem in his garage, it's no wonder he likes to meet up with other bike enthusiasts!

19. 1931 Shotwell

The 1931 Shotwell screams classic vintage when you set your eyes upon it. This remarkable three-wheeler was invented by a 17-year-old called Bob Shotwell. What were you doing in your teens? We certainly weren’t constructing classic cars! Anyway, the Shotwell has a four-cylinder cool-air Indian motorcycle engine, and Leno’s rebuilt version from around 2004 is a proud addition to takes pride of place in his garage.

20. 1950 Nash Ambassador Custom

How cool is the 1950 Nash Ambassador that Leno owns? Pretty cool, both figuratively and literally is the answer. That’s because as well as looking the part with its shiny green paint, it also possesses a groundbreaking — for its time — air-conditioning system, known as weather eye. The vintage car also boasts ultramatic transmission and a select-o-matic start motor. No clue what they are? Nope, us neither.

21. 1972 Mercedes 600 Kompressor

The 1972 Mercedes 600 Kompressor is a bona fide Mercedes classic. This model was obviously built and brought out in the early 1970s, and the prelude to the S Class. The hydraulics are perhaps the most notable thing about the vehicle, with that system even operating the windows. They’re expensive to maintain, but clearly Leno thinks they are worth the while, citing the Kompressor as a personal favorite.

22. 2015 BAC Mono

A racing car for the ages, the 2015 BAC Mono is a stunning motor vehicle. The one-seat speedster is equipped with pushrod suspension and a light carbon chassis. There’s 280hp waiting for you to enjoy. Leno owns one, and has said it is “basically a Formula 1 car for the street.” So find some long stretches of open road, push the accelerator and strap in, because this baby goes fast!

23. 1928 Bentley Speed 6

The 1928 Bentley Speed 6 was in production for around four years, from 1926 until 1930. There were only 544 of it made, and Leno is lucky enough to own one of those that has survived almost a century now. It’s a beautiful, sporty racing car that was actually used in the famous 24-hour Le Mans race in 1929 and 1930. You’d need close to $3 million minimum to get hold of one today.

24. 2012 McLaren MP4-12C

Leno is absolutely smitten with the 2012 McLaren MP4-12C, and with good reason. The late-night-chat-show king had one constructed for him by what he calls his favorite car manufacturer. They even invited him to the U.K. to zoom around a track in what must have been a thrilling test drive. Rather amusingly, the supercar has a “normal” mode for driving sensibly through towns and cities.

25. 1934 Duesenberg Walker Coupe

What can we say about the 1934 Duesenberg Walker Coupe? That it’s probably out of your price range, at roughly $20 million, for starters. Leno, though, is no ordinary guy. His extensive garage boasts an aerodynamic version of these eye-wateringly expensive vintage cars, which is powered by a huge inline 8-cylinder motor that churns out 265hp. Amazingly, this car would have cost only $25,000 back in the day.

26. 1955 Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing Coupe

The 1955 Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing Coupe is a stunning vintage race car. Leno has spent some of his considerable wealth in painstakingly restoring one of these beauties, of which he is the third owner. He and his team fitted a 3-liter six-cylinder engine, which can produce 180hp. You’d need at least $1.8 million to acquire one of these vehicles.

27. 1941 Plymouth Special Deluxe Business Coupe

Leno has gone on record to say that the 1941 Plymouth Special Deluxe Business Coupe is an original and unrestored version, bar a few licks of paint and replaced tires. It looks fantastic, despite being 80-plus years old. There’s no power steering though, so you might need to build up your muscles before maneuvering this vintage stunner.

28. 1909 Stanley Steamer

One of the oldest vehicles in Leno’s humongous garage is the 1909 Stanley Steamer. As you can probably gather from its name, the car runs on steam and not oil. You’ll need a good 30 minutes to get it warmed up, but Leno still enjoys cruising around in it. The funnyman’s restored century-old car is estimated to be worth $185,000.

29. 1969 Lotus Elan

One of the biggest rebuilding jobs that Leno and his pals have done was for his 1969 Lotus Elan. The vehicle he got hold of was in a bad state, and the comic and his team were able to turn it into a near pristine version in around 18 months. There are a bare minimum of electrical parts to this Lotus, in keeping with its heritage.

30. 1965 Shelby 427 Cobra

“There’s nothing like the rawness of this automobile,” exclaimed Leno, while driving down the freeway and talking about the 1965 Shelby 427 Cobra. It’s true, this nearly-60-year-old vehicle has a certain power to it that is endearing. Leno’s authentic, black-painted version is one of only 23 built, and worth a cool $2.5 million dollars.

31. 1913 Mercer Raceabout

It might look a bit like it should be plowing a field, but the 1913 Mercer Raceabout is a vintage car of some repute. Leno said it was “one of the most famous and one of the greatest American cars of all time.” High praise from such a petrolhead as Leno, but he has a point. Despite being over 100 years old, the vehicle can still reach an impressive speed of 100mph, courtesy of its 4.8-liters four-cylinder engine.

32. 1963 Jaguar E-Type

The U.K. has created some legendary sports cars, but few as iconic as the 1963 Jaguar E-Type. Leno had his own model of this car lightened considerably, though, with aluminum sheets replacing the heavy body panels. His YouTube episode centered on the car revealed this alteration took roughly 3,000 hours, and the car now weighs in at a mere 2,200 pounds!

33. 1950 Mercedes Transporter

One of the more unusual vehicles that Leno owns is surely the 1950 Mercedes Transporter. This beast of a truck was built to transport the racing cars of the Mercedes team back to headquarters in between competitions. Despite its hefty size, it can reach a fairly impressive top speed of 106mph.

34. 1928 Bugatti Type 37A

Leno describes himself as a “huge Bugatti enthusiast,” so it is fitting that he has one of the few remaining Bugatti Type 37As in operation. This 1928 model was a racing car, and it is impressively powerful given its era. It can clock 100mph on the freeway, no problem. The flywheel to gearbox driveshaft is an interesting feature of this near-100 year old vehicle, so handle with care!

35. 1962 Maserati 3500 GTi

How Leno acquired his 1962 Maserati 3500 GTi is kind of funny. He was actually trying to seek out an Aston Martin DB5, the beloved car of James Bond. But Leno discovered a Maserati that was hidden away in a storage locker. The funnyman duly bought it for a bargain $25,000 with 100,000 miles on the clock. The vintage vehicle has since required minimal work, its engine firing on all cylinders on the first run and never needing replacing!

36. 1910 White Steam Car Model

What a beautiful car the 1910 White Steam Car Model is. Leno is a big fan, and purchased the rare vehicle — constructed by a sewing machine company — from someone who acquired it way back in 1960. But the car goes 50 years back from that, and needed a lot of work to get it working again. Leno and his team attached a new burner plate to ensure there were no leaks, and this collector’s item was fit to go back on the road.

37. 1958 Imperial Convertible

The 1958 Imperial Convertible is a classic American car. So, of course Leno had to have one of these sizable beasts. “This is the kind of car rich guys drove when I was a kid,” joked the TV host. And he’s not wrong. But the ‘58 Convertible’s value has only grown over time, as they have become rarer. Notable features of this vehicle include a striking and wide body and a humongous 392 Hemi engine.

38. 1975 Plymouth Duster

Another custom-built vehicle in Leno’s collection is the 1975 Plymouth Duster. It was built by the late racing driver and mechanic Paul Annunziata, who wanted to make sure it went somewhere it would be looked after when he passed. So, the car naturally ended up in Leno’s garage, who sees himself as more of a custodian than a collector. The U.S. TV favorite ensures the 1,000hp Hemi engine gets a good runout from time to time to ensure it stays in full working order.

39. 1964 Honda S600

Aww. That’s the first thought we had upon viewing the 1964 Honda S600 Hot Rod. The diminutive vehicle — with its motorcycle-like engine and drive-chain setup — looks like a small puppy on the road when coming up against the other big dogs on the tarmac. Still, you can put your foot down in it and reach a decent top speed in this pint-sized powerhouse. And it looks pretty cool to us, anyway. “California hot rodding at its best,” as Leno put it.

40. 2014 McLaren P1

Finally, we have the 2014 McLaren P1: an ultra-slick hypercar from — as previously noted — Leno’s favorite car manufacturer. Indeed, the funnyman bought the first ever 2014 P1 that reached America, and was the first to test it outside of McLaren staff. His yellow supercar is a hybrid, and it’s an astonishingly fast motor with a top speed of 217mph. Oh, and it costs $1.35 million to acquire.
